Your social media followers can be a great Focus Group
Are you an ordinary Artist like me who can’t afford to hire Marketing Consultants and Focus Groups to test drive your visual ideas?
If so, don’t overlook a free Focus Group: Your art page Social Media audience!
I’ve personally found that people’s reactions to my artwork and other visual ideas on social media pretty accurately mirror people’s In Real Life reactions. If I post some artwork and get crickets, that same art will typically receive crickets in real life. If I post some artwork and people receive it extremely warmly, that same art will typically receive an enthusiastic response in real life.
Recently I decided to change my art business logo. I designed three possibilities that I liked. I posted my current logo and the three new possibilities online and asked people to vote for their favorite one.
To my surprise, my least favorite one turned out to be the one that received an overwhelming enthusiastic response. I went with it (you see it as the logo on this webpage). The reason I trusted the voting responses across several social medias was my years of experience telling me that people’s online responses truly mirror how they respond to my images in real life.
So my personal, unscientific advice is: Generally speaking, trust your social media audience to provide your with grouop feedback in a manner similar to how people will respond in real life. What a valuable tool, and we can access it for free!
