Creating AI marketing commercials using images of one’s own art

I recently posted a humorous video. I took a photo of my hand made sculpture of a robot. I used AI to make its image walk around and dance, to tell a funny story I had made up in my head.

I mainly did it to entertain myself. I also did it for marketing purposes. I posted it on my art related social media. If you’d like to view it, CLICK HERE.

Most folks thought it was funny. Especially the local ones who have seen that actual sculpture in real life.

However, some folks apparently took offense at me using AI in my marketing video. I was a bit surprised by that. Although I do feel everybody’s got a right to their own opinions about AI. It’s new and confusing and controverial.

I personally felt there was no ethical copywrite problem since I was using my OWN art images of my own hand made art.

My biggest problem with Artists using AI is when Artists use it to create art. Because AI draws from other people’s art images to create the new one. I feel this violates the rights of the artists’ whose work was used without their permission. For this reason, I don’t use AI to create art.

I DO use AI to create marketing videos of my own art. And I have even used it to animate my own business card (which I personally designed with a photo of myself, so it is my own image being animated). So I guess for me personally, “Using AI to create art is bad, but using AI of one’s own art to create marketing commercials is okay.”

I am currently researching the options for embedding things in art images to prevent AI from “scraping” them for future use in creating other images for people. I feel all Artists who put their art out on the internet should look into this.
